Zangi End-to-End Encryption Explained (AES-GCM 256)

How Zangi end-to-end encryption works: what AES-GCM 256 protects, what it does not, and why on-device storage matters.

Padlock resting on a smartphone illustrating end-to-end encryption

End-to-end encryption is the technical backbone of the app, and the app applies it more broadly than most messengers bother to. Here is what the AES-GCM 256 label actually means for your chats, your calls, and your files.

What end-to-end means

When you send a message in the app, your phone encrypts it with a key that only your device and the recipient's device hold. The encrypted blob travels through its infrastructure, but nobody in the middle, not hackers, not the developer, can read it. Decryption happens only on the recipient's phone. That is the entire idea: the ends hold the keys, and everything between them is blind.

If you are new here, the Zangi homepage has the complete overview.

What AES-GCM 256 is

AES-256 is a symmetric encryption standard trusted by banks and governments; GCM is the mode that also verifies the message has not been tampered with. In plain terms: your messages are scrambled with a key so strong that brute-forcing it is not a realistic threat, and any modification in transit is detected and rejected.

What Zangi encrypts

Texts, photos, videos, file transfers, voice messages, voice calls, and video calls all travel under the same encryption. There is no unencrypted tier: the feature list does not matter because every layer is covered. This is worth comparing in our Zangi vs WhatsApp privacy comparison, where the difference is what happens around the encryption, not the encryption itself.

What encryption does not do

Encryption protects data in transit and on the app servers (which store nothing anyway). It does not protect a phone someone else is holding while unlocked, and it does not stop the person you are talking to from screenshotting. It also keeps your data only on your device, which is a separate and equally important protection.

Why it matters

Most privacy failures are not broken encryption; they are data collected around the encryption. The app pairs real end-to-end encryption with a genuine no-collection policy, which is why our safety breakdown rates it so highly. Try it from the Zangi APK download page and your next conversation is encrypted by default.

Quick answers

What encryption does Zangi use?

Zangi uses end-to-end AES-GCM 256 encryption across texts, media, files, and voice and video calls.

Can Zangi decrypt my messages?

No. The encryption keys live on the communicating devices, so Zangi servers only ever see unreadable ciphertext.

Does encryption protect me if my phone is stolen?

Only partly. Encryption protects data in transit; someone holding your unlocked phone can still open the app. Use a device lock.
